Craft Victoria recognises the importance of environmental sustainability and is committed to the ongoing reduction of the organisation’s carbon footprint.
There is a good fit between sustainability and the craft sector given the handmade focus of the industry and the environmental awareness amongst Craft Victoria Members.
DIY Kyoto and Craft Victroia
Craft Victoria is a member of DIY Kyoto, an organsation that developed a nifty little machine called Wattson which has been connected to our mains power supply at Flinders Lane. Wattson records Craft Victoria's energy consumption over the day and the data is uploaded to an online community. Learn more about DIY Kyoto here.
Craft Victoria will endeavour to consider environmental repercussions as part of our planning processes. Craft Victoria will seek to:
1. Minimise energy use
2. Reduce waste
3. Use environmentally friendly transport
4. Reduce product miles by supporting Australian made goods
5. Purchase carbon credits annually to offset emissions in full
To ensure environmental practices are embedded into the organisational culture Craft Victoria will:
1. Sustain a staff Green Team to drive ongoing environmental improvement
2. Review monthly data from energy monitor and electricity bill, reporting monthly usage to all staff
3. Maintain an environmental procedures manual to be reviewed annually
4. Introduce new Craft Victoria staff to the environmental policy and procedures as part of the induction process
5. Promote sustainable practices to our members and customers
* 2011 Goal: Reduce power consumption at Craft Victoria by 10% from 2010 levels.
