NGV Eugene von Guerard Exhibition Product: Wendy Jagger

In late 2010, Craft Victoria's New Craft Made in Victoria project began work on a range of products to celebrate the NGV 150 years. In partnering with the NGV Shop, we've created a beautiful range of exclusive NGV 150 Years and Eugene Von Guerard commemorative products featuring contemporary and stylish work from five of Craft Victoria's Professional Members.

Wendy Jagger's hand etched, Eugene von Guerard vessel (pictured above) was commisioned to reflect the work in the NGV 150th Anniversay exhibition Eugene Von Guerard: Nature Revealed.

The unique flora of Australia features significantly in the imagery of Wendy Jagger's artwork. Eugene von  Ferntree or Dobson's Gully was created by the great landscapist in 1858 and depicts the delicate tracery of tree ferns, eucalypts and understory shrubs. When thinking about a product to compliment the exhibition this work from the NGV Collection resonated with Jagger, as she lived in the Dandenong Ranges for a number of years with the lush, fern gullies holding a special place for her. Etched imagery from this work wraps itself around and within the Eugene von Guerard vessel, which has been wheel-thrown in translucent, Australian Southern Ice porcelain.

This work along with the other works from the NGV 150 Years collection is part of Craft Victoria's ongoing New Craft Made project, where Craft Victoria members develop new products for commercial markets and is the project's most significant collection of products to date. In addition to Jagger's vessel, the NGV 150 years branded collection includes Lene Kuhl Jakobsen's Water Drop Bud Vases in porcelain clay; Vanessa Lucas' slip cast ceramic Ewer (Jug) and Cup & Saucer sets in dense dark chocolate; Dani M's set of three hand carved bowls in John Brack inspired colours and Jill Symes' Pony, a white gloss ceramic, sculptural piece.

Congratulations to the National Gallery of Victoria on its 150 years and to our five Craft Victoria Professional Members for their evocative and well designed pieces celebrating this special milestone.
