Marian Hosking: Jewellery is the third exhibition in Object Gallery’s widely applauded Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft series, celebrating the achievements of senior craft practitioners. With a career spanning almost 40 years, Hosking has exhibited both nationally and internationally, is represented in numerous collections and is one of Australia’s foremost contemporary jewellers and silversmiths.

Working primarily with silver, her pieces are laden with rich surface patterns and textures. This reflects her particular concerns for the natural environment, allowing her to echo the forms and motifs found in nature. Her Living Treasures exhibition will include a largescale sculptural work along with a collection of new vessels and jewellery pieces. Craft Victoria is honoured to present the work of this master artisan, in conjunction with Object Gallery, as the only Victorian venue on an extensive national tour.

As a practitioner and educator, Hosking’s influence has been farreaching. She established the first jewellery course at Charles Sturt University in 1973, and went on to establish her own studio in Melbourne in 1976 before co-founding Workshop 3000 in 1981. She has lectured at RMIT and is currently the Studio Coordinator, Metal and Jewellery at Monash University.

This exhibition is accompanied by a significant 120-page monograph co-published by Object and Craftsman House.
