In 2009, Fresh! finalist Matthew Briscoe was the recipient of the Northcote Pottery Supplies Award; an exhibition to be held at Pan Gallery a year from graduation. Transformation is the progression of the 2009 Deconstructed Bowl series, utilizing the object to explore values in light and shade. Matthew deconstructs wheel thrown bowls and reforms the pieces to create new shapes. The works go through a transformation and by low firing the stoneware clay, the sheen of the slip is maintained, highlighting the play of light on the surface of the reconstructed object.

Matthew completed the Diploma of Ceramics at the University of Ballarat TAFE in 2009 and has continued his studies in 2010 by undertaking a Degree in Visual Arts.
