Simon Lloyd : Gleaning Potential

Simon Lloyd : Gleaning Potential
Exhibitions
1 May – 13 June 2009
Gallery 1

Materials and their behaviours perform a critical role in informing the practice of designer Simon Lloyd. Working within the realm of a wide range of materials Lloyd continues to explore, clarify and emulate material gestures’ within the objects he produces. Gleaning Potential extends this thinking through the collection and examination of material fragments undertaken as part of a Masters project in Industrial design at RMIT. The many hundreds of these small fragments make up a collection of miniature resources, models through which ideas and concepts may be examined and later replicated. This collection comprising: metal, wood, rubber, glass, paper, stone, flint, ceramic and others will be housed within a small structure within the gallery space at Craft Victoria. Within this collection space is a small window through which one may view Lloyds material enquiries exhibited on the gallery wall. Here finished objects sit together with developmental models and gleaned fragments that may in some way have influenced the original line of enquiry. Lloyd’s finished works include objects in, cast iron, aluminium, steel, ceramic, felt and oatmeal.

Opening Thursday 30 April, 6-8pm. Artist talks 5:30pm.
