Cosmetic explores the ubiquity of aesthetic surgery processes through the paradigm of jewellery. The exhibition presents a series of premises pertaining to contemporary cosmetic procedures, both real and imaginary. The work developed as part of this exhibition is largely ephemeral, challenging the permanence of a surgical presence on the skin: a false constructed memory that belies the natural journey skin experiences through time and environment.
Opening Thursday 17 April, 2008 6-8pm. Artist talks 5:30pm.
To be opened by Kelly Gellatly, Curator of Contemporary Art, National Gallery of Victoria.
