Artists from the September round of exhibitions gather at Craft Victoria to talk about thier work. Including:
Natalia Milosz-Piekarska & Karla Way: Bad Beasts Do Not Harm Me
Natalia Milosz-Piekarska and Karla Way come together to present new work investigating the transcendent and transformative capabilities of materials. Amuletic and talismanic objects have long been associated with attracting luck and fortune, protecting from natural and supernatural forces, and radiating powers to benefit the beholder or wearer. Thought to be a direct conduit to the realm of deities, such objects transcend their physical state to become more than merely a rock, an animal bone, or a finely crafted pendant of silver or gold.
Deirdre Feeney: seventh eve
In seventh eve, Deirdre Feeney works with the pre-cinematic device of the magic lantern to create miniature architectural structures in glass. Cinema, affectionately known as the ‘seventh art’, owes much to its lantern predecessor. This new body of work pays homage to the possibilities of imagination triggered by the advent of the illuminated, projected image.
Ricarda Bigolin & Michael Spooner: For What It's Worth
An elephant becomes the mask for a creative interchange between fashion and architecture, reconstructing, without bearing any resemblance to, the dressing room of Charles Frederick Worth. Worth is widely regarded as the ‘first fashion designer’, a title symbolic of the industrialization of dressmaking.
